Mohamed Salah is sent racing clear after Vogt lets the ball run but Salah never really looks like he has the ball under control. Vogt does well to get back to put pressure on the Egyptian who can only trickle a tame effort wide with his right foot from the edge of the box.

Hard to say if Mignolet saved that away to his left or whether he was bang in the middle of the goal. Poor, poor penalty from the former Leicester City man.

He makes a good challenge on Gnabry in the right-back spot. Hoffenheim try to take the resulting throw in quickly but they can't take advantage.

Liverpool have the ball in the net but it won't stand

Salah was offside when he was found by Alexander-Arnold but the Egyptian looped the ball over Baumann and into the far corner anyway. No doubts about the decision but a sharp start from Liverpool nonetheless.
