Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has hailed some of his team-mates, backing Anthony Martial to be "a force this season" and says Marcus Rashford is "bound to score goals" for United.

Anthony Martial has enjoyed a positive start to the season at Old Trafford after a frustrating campaign last year. The 21-year-old took his tally to four goals this season on Wednesday night, already half of last season's total, and put in a man-of-the-match display as United dispatched Burton 4-1 to book their place in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Martial put in an exceptional display on Wednesday night and fellow goalscorer Lingard said: "When he is running at you, any defender is going to be put on the back foot.

"If he continues to do that throughout the season, he'll be a force this season.

"I thought we dominated the game throughout. With the pace we had up front, we pressed them early on and the early goal helped us a lot.

"It puts them on the back foot and starts us off on the front foot and we wanted more goals after that."

Martial scored United's only second-half goal, after Lingard's deflected goal was preceded by a brace from Marcus Rashford in the first half an hour.

Rashford was played in his favoured central attacking position  and he impressed at Old Trafford while Romelu Lukaku was rested.

When asked about the 19-year-old striker, Lingard told MUTV: "If he plays down the middle, he is bound to score goals.

"He's got the pace to beat players and he has got the composure in front of goal as well."

Luke Shaw also made a return to the first team after recovering from the foot ligament issue sustained at the end of April as he came on at half-time, and Lingard was complimentary about his performance.

"He did very well. He came on at a comfortable score, so he's come into a game where he can get on the ball and make things happen," Lingard added.
