Gary Lineker spoke about the possible cancellation of the Premier League due to COVID-19. The ex-player advocated ending the season like has been done in the Netherlands.
Two experienced voice in British football, Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher, gave their opinion about a possible cancellation of the Premier League. While the former understood that this could happen, the latter advocated for it to be finished as soon as possible.
"Maybe it's the only way, even if it's not the fairest way," Lineker wrote on his social media about the Premier League, once it became known that the Eredivisie had been cancelled with no one winning the title.
This would mean Liverpool would be left without their first-ever Premier League title, a controversial decision that would leave the Reds angry and leave them feeling cheated.
"While it's important to have perspective in these difficult times, it would be fairer to try, if possible, to get the season over. Is that feasible? Probably not, but that's another question", Lineker added.
For his part, ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher opted for continuing with the current season. "If this happened in the Premier League, would it be fair?" he wondered in relation to the Eredivisie.
"Not many people want it to get cancelled or use the average points per game for the standings. So the clear message is that the season finishes when the virus allows," he wrote.
