Ligue 1 will see major changes to it from the 2023-24 season. The clubs have approved this.
Up to now, Ligue 1 has 20 clubs. For that season, there will be 18 teams. In other words, there will be two teams less and four matchdays less.
This has to be approved at the LFP's general assembly this Thursday. We also know how they will reduce the number of teams for the 2022-23 campaign.
That season, two clubs will get promoted from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1 while four clubs will be relegated from Ligue 1. That will mean there are 18 clubs just like in the Bundesliga.
The main reason for this is purely financial as the clubs will have to share the money among less teams.
