Although many Championship teams have called for the league leaders to be deducted points, FA and EFL investigations are likely to result in fines for the Elland Road club.

Leeds United are unlikely to be handed a points deduction over the 'SpyGate' scandal that has emerged in recent weeks. A member of the club's coaching staff was caught attempting to watch rivals Derby County train, before their clash last weekend, a match which Leeds won 2-0.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa then admitted in an extraordinary press conference, that he had in fact sent spies to watch all of his side's opponents throughout the course of the season. Eleven Championship sides have sent letters to the EFL, asking for full disclosure on what Leeds are alleged to have done.

The EFL (English Football League) and the FA (Football Association) are currently investigating the incident. The EFL could charge the club under article 83, which allows for a fixed penalty. i.e a fine. Or, should the EFL deem this insufficient, they could ask for the case to be referred to the FA. In the case that the issue is referred to the FA, a points deduction could indeed be possible. It is likely that Leeds would be charged under the FA's E3 misconduct rule.
