Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has joked that Kylian Mbappé regularly calls him to convince him to join Real Madrid, as speculation grows over his future at Anfield.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has revealed in a light-hearted remark that Kylian Mbappe "calls me every two hours" in a bid to persuade him to join Real Madrid.

The centre-back, whose current contract with the Reds has entered its final year, faces speculation about where he will play next season.

Speaking to Telefoot, Konate laughed off the suggestion, adding that he does not even speak Spanish when asked if he could adapt to a potential move. Konate and Mbappe share a strong friendship, having featured together for the French national team on 20 occasions.

Since he arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konate has become a defensive mainstay, accumulating 136 appearances for the Merseyside club.

During his tenure, he has lifted the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups. The defender’s future remains uncertain, but his playful exchange indicates he is not taking transfer talk too seriously for now.
