Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke says that his side didn't deserve to lose the Madrid derby 3-0 and didn't believe that Real Madrid should have been awarded a penalty for their second goal.

Ahead of the last ever Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon, many envisaged a tight game between Atletico and Real, with both sides challenging for the La Liga title and possibly even the Champions League.

Without captain Sergio Ramos and striker Karim Benzema, Real Madrid eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory against their city rivals. However, Koke believes that the scoreline was misleading and said "it wasn't a 3-0 kind of game".

"Atletico go home upset because it wasn't a 3-0 kind of game," he said. "It was a difficult evening because we wanted to win and we could not, yet we have to congratulate them.

"We are annoyed for losing against our eternal rival, but we have to go on, there's a lot of league ahead of us and without a doubt, we're going to improve because we have a great team".

The Spain international also thought that Real Madrid shouldn't have been awarded a penalty for their second goal and suggested the outcome of the match may have been different had they not gone 2-0 down.

"They looked to play a very direct game and were more comfortable," he added. "Then they got the goal with a bit of good fortune.

"In the second half we started better, but then the penalty came and from where we were, it seemed that it wasn't a penalty.

"From the penalty onwards, it was difficult to come back from going 2-0 down".
