Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Harry Winks have withdrawn from the England squad to face Brazil and Germany through injury.

Kane's absence will be a big blow to Gareth Southgate's plans for the upcoming friendlies, given his status as one of the key players in his England team.

The Tottenham striker is favourite to become the next permanent England captain and has scored seven goals in his last six international appearances, and is one of the handful of players guaranteed to start in Russia in the summer.

Tottenham's medics assessed Kane's situation on Monday morning and although his injury is not said to be a serious one, it will rule him out of the friendlies against Brazil and Germany.

Kane's Spurs team-mate Harry Winks also excelled during the last international break where he made his England debut against Lithuania, but he has withdrawn from the squad with an ankle ligament injury.

West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore has been called up as cover for Winks, and according to 'Sky Sports', Gareth Southgate is deciding whether to call up further attacking cover for Kane, as Jamie Vardy, Marcus Rashford and uncapped Tammy Abraham are the only remaining recognised strikers in the squad.
