Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah have both been in scintillating form already this season and although it's only February, both are certainly in contention for the Premier League player of the year. We take a look at their numbers...

The two forwards have been netting goals left, right and centre so far, with 55 league goals between them and there is still three more months to go until the end of the season. However, who has the edge?

HARRY KANE

Tottenham's top goalscorer has been consistently hitting the back of the net since 2014-15 and this year is no different. In 26 league appearances he's bagged 23 goals, averaging 0.88 per game. His prolific form has helped him scooped two Player of the Month awards for September and December and could be in for a shout for February after scoring the winner in the North London derby a few weeks back.

MO SALAH

Liverpool look to have secured the best signing of the campaign in the Egyptian forward. Despite not succeeding at Chelsea, Salah came back with a bang, netting 22 times in 26 league games to secure an average of 0.85. However, he's scored one less goal than Kane so far and won one less Player of the Month award (November), suggesting that the England international has the edge on the goal front.

DECIDING FACTOR?

As the two forwards are almost neck-and-neck, let's turn to how they contribute to the team in other areas, such as assists. Kane is an out-and-out striker so tends to only be on the receiving end of sublime through balls from team-mates such as Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, and his numbers back this up. He's only provided one assist this year, although he has also created four big chances and supplied 16 crosses.

However, in Merseyside, Salah has been a lot more involved in the creation of plays for his team due to his more expansive position. The 25-year-old has secured seven assists, created ten big opportunities for others and supplied 57 crosses, which could give him that decisive edge for voters if their goal tallies remain close in May.

It's going to be an interesting final few months.
