Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement, pending official confirmation. One of the captains of the azulgrana team will lower his salary by 25% and, in addition, defer it throughout his contract until 2024.
The full-back was one of the names highlighted in red due to the club's delicate economic situation. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', his salary will be reduced by a quarter to help Barcelona's coffers.
Jordi Alba joins his teammate Gerard Pique. The centre-back took a pay cut before the start of the season, which allowed the club to sign Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay in La Liga.
"My predisposition has always been to help the club and I love Barca. Nobody has to doubt me. Nobody at the club had said anything to me in this sense until a few weeks ago," confessed Jordi Alba after playing against Real Sociedad.
Jordi Alba was determined to help the club with its weak economy after Bartomeu's departure. Now, the next to take a pay cut will be Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets, the other captains.
These salary reductions will allow Barcelona to register the last of the signings who has not yet been able to play, Sergio Agüero. The Argentinian is injured and will not return until October, which is why there was no rush to register him beyond 31st August.
