Joao Félix's first intention was to wear number 79 at Atlético Madrid, the number that he wore at Benfica. The forward explained in an interview with 'Elevensports' that they didn't let him choose this number and he ended up getting number 7.

Joao Félix had decided on his shirt number for his spell at Atlético. However, they didn't entertain the idea. "I wanted number 79, the number that I wore at Benfica, but they didn't let me here", he explained.

The forward, then, had another option in mind. "I wanted 10, but it was already taken...", he continued.

Therefore, in the end, and almost by default, Joao Félix ended up opting for number 7. "Thus that's how I ended up with that number", he concluded.

Beyond the story of the shirt number, Joao Félix spoke about the tough Champions League tie that awaits Atlético against Liverpool. "It's going to be difficult. They are in an excellent run of form. It's going to be hard".
