The clock is ticking. The first transfer window of 2018 will close on January 31 and clubs are in a hurry to finalise deals and strengthen their squads for an exhausting second half of the season.

Always an atypical time of the year, the winter transfer window edges to a close. In seven days, January will come to an end after several blockbuster moves across Europe and it's not looking like letting up.

Questions to be answered

In the final stages, all eyes are set on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker is adamant he wants to leave Borussia Dortmund to join Arsenal. An agreement between both clubs has not yet been reached, though Arsene Wenger did admit talks had been held. The Gunners' No 1 option to replace Alexis Sanchez up front.

Lucas Moura also appears to be on the exit ramp. He has no room in Unai Emery's PSG and is eager to leave as soon as possible in search of regular first-team football. €40million is the price set by the French giants, with Manchester United reportedly interested in the Brazilian.

Barcelona are also looking to offload some attacking talent after their January influx. Gerard Deulofeu wants to make it to the World Cup in Russia and to do so he needs a more important role than Ernesto Valverde can offer him at the Camp Nou. Napoli are following him closely.

Many other names are also likely to switch clubs in the coming week, including Daniel Sturridge, Aleix Vidal, Mario Balotelli or Sandro Ramirez.

Big signings

Looking back at the month of January we see clubs have not held back, and two big names come to mind: Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez. Two stars who have bolstered the ranks of two teams in contention to lift the Champions League.

Barcelona broke their club transfer record with the addition of the Brazilian, paying €120million plus an extra €40million in add-ons for a talented playmaker who is not elegible to play in Europe.

United and Arsenal have completed a swap deal, exchanging Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Sanchez. The Chilean will become the highest-paid footballer in the Premier League and will improve Jose Mourinho's options in attack.

Virgil Van Dijk became the most expensive defender of all time when signing for Liverpool, and Rafinha left his home at Barcelona to embark upon a new journey on loan at Inter Milan. More deals are yet to come, with reports suggesting Manchester City will pay the €65million on Aymeric Laporte's release clause.
