Benfica president Filipe Vieira spoke about how he let Edison Cavani slip through his fingers. In an interview with "TV1", he explains how things could have been very different.

After his contract expired at PSG, Cavani spent months looking for a new team. He received countless offers, one of them being from Benfica.

However, when it came down to it, the Portuguese club failed to get their man.

Filipe Vieira told 'TV1' how the deal went down: "I received a proposal for almost double the amount that we had initially offered when everything pointed to us being close to wrapping up the deal. Then he came back to us and said that he wasn't interested".

The Benfica boss thinks that things would have been different if he'd met with the striker. "If I'd met with Cavani face to face, he would have signed..." he claimed.

In the end, Manchester United convinced the Uruguayan. He may well make his debut this week against his former club, PSG.
