Bayern Munich have returned to training with Willy Sagnol assisting head coach Carlo Ancelotti, though the Italian had other preferences.

Phillipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso confirmed their respective retirements a few weeks ago, and they both received tributes in the city of Munich.

'I tried to convince Lahm before the end of the season, I also tried to convince Xabi. They rejected the position, they did not want to be my helpers', he declared.

The Italian manager wanted the assistance of two important men in the Bayern dressing room, but finally Sagnol was chosen.

'He is a good profile, I was looking for somebody with experience at the club and he is perfect, he has also worked for France and Girondins Bordeaux, he knows many players such as Ribery or Coman', Ancelotti said.
