Carlo Ancelotti analysed Real Madrid's clash at the Metropolitano in a press conference and explained the criteria for his choice of the five penalty takers in the shootout.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged that from his point of view the penalty in the shootout by Argentine Julian Alvarez was rightly disallowed because he gave “a second touch with his left foot”.
“They had already detected it from the VAR when we noticed it. I didn't notice this, but then I saw it and it seems to me that he took the second touch with his left foot,” he said at the press conference.
Ancelotti made an analysis of the match at the Metropolitano in which, after the goal conceded within the first minute, he saw it as key not to take risks to avoid being caught on the counterattack.
“The match was difficult, complicated as always, even more so after the blow in the first minute. After that, the plan was quite clear, they defended and tried to find us out of position in quick transitions. The priority was to play more effective possession, trying to look for opportunities, but without complicating the match,” he said.
“The tie was evenly matched and creating chances against Atletico is very difficult because they defend very well, everyone works hard. We had a wonderful play by Mbappe, we missed the penalty and in the shootout we chose the five. We had doubts about the fifth, but Rudiger had scored against City and we chose him,” he added.
He explained that decision later 'Carletto' who had doubts between Endrick and Antonio Rudiger. “On the final penalty we had a doubt, who should have taken the penalty between Rüdiger or Endrick. We wanted Endrick… But then I saw his face and I decided Rudiger was the better option,” he concluded.
