Dani Osvaldo, who played in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A, as well as the Italy national team, is now the lead singer of a band and he claims he quit football in 2016 so he could eat more barbecue food and drink more beer.

The 31-year-old former striker scored four goals in 14 appearances for Italy and three in 13 during an unsuccessful spell at Southampton in 2013, after arriving for £13m. He returned to Italy in 2014, on loan at Juventus, after a training ground bust-up with the Saints captain at the time, Jose Fonte.

He then had spells at Inter Milan, Porto and Boca Juniors, but he had his contract terminated in Argentina after being found smoking in the dressing room in May 2016. He announced his retirement three months later amid reports he was set to join Chievo.

On his early retirement, Osvaldo told 'La Gazzetta dello Sport': "I couldn't do it anymore. I had offers from China and clubs in the Champions League, but I was detached. I was beginning to hate what I had always loved.

"Football deserves respect, and I prefer asado [Argentinian barbecue] and beer to money."

The former Italy international also revealed he had an offer to play for Sevilla last year but rejected it because his band were scheduled to play in a festival.

'Do you want a laugh? In December 2016 [Jorge] Sampaoli contacted me, he was at Sevilla at the time,' Osvaldo recalled.

"He said to me: 'Dani, I'm not asking anything of you, you can do what you want on the pitch and off, but I need a striker'.

"I told him 'but boss, there's the Cosquin Rock festival!'. He said 'I forgot! Go, of course, you can't miss it'. Two crazy people!"

I guess that's one way to get out of signing for a club!
