'I never thought Griezmann would get to where he is'
Imanol Agirretxe, former team-mate of the Frenchman in Real Sociedad, spoke about his arrival to the first team and how little by little he has managed to make a place for himself among the best.
Antoine Griezmann's rise to Real Sociedad's first team was meteoric. The team was in Second Division, had doubts about its future due to its economic state... and the Frenchman gave hope to a Real Sociedad that ended up getting promoted shortly after.
Imanol Agirretxe recalled in 'Idolos' how his arrival to the first team took place. He revealed that he never imagined that he would achieve everything he has achieved and spoke of his initial moments in the first team.
"Antoine joined the first team after several issues. There were injured people, players were needed ... and several players from the academy were requirews," said the now retired former striker.
"He began to score goals, to find his way and he went from being a part of the academy who came up to contribute... to being world champion," continued Agirretxe.
The former Real Sociedad player admitted that he is happy for everything achieved by his former teammate, but said he did not expect him to become the player he is now.
"I honestly didn't expect him to achieve everything he's achieved. He looked very good and, for how young he was, he made a difference, but all he's achieved are bigger words. I'm glad and hopefully he will continue to break records, scoring goals and giving joy," concluded the former attacker on the now Barça player.
