A Chelsea legend has claimed that the club replaced him with Cesc Fabregas, with whom he never saw eye to eye.

Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014, the same year Frank Lampard departed Stamford Bridge after 13 years at the club and 649 appearances.

The former England midfielder, who won three league titles and the Champions League with the Blues, claimed he was released by the club in order to bring in the Spaniard.

"I wasn't with Cesc at Chelsea. They basically let me go to bring him in," said Lampard, who had clashed with the ex-Arsenal man during previous encounters.

"We never really got on so well on the pitch either, so I think they thought there was no way we could share a dressing room," he added.

Lampard joined New York City in the MLS after a brief stint at Manchester City in the 2014/15 season.
