Mats Hummels was one of the three chosen to be forced into early international retirement by Joachim Low recently. The centre-back spoke about how he received the decision.

It was a controversial decision in Germany for Joachim Low to drop Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller from the German national team and tell them they would never play for their countries again.

In statements made to 'Sport Bild', German centre-back Mats Hummels has said that there are "things that others don't appreciate".

"I don't hold grudges over people due to the decisions they take", he added.

Furthermore, he added that Low's decision was "unfair given all the success we had there and what we had done. It was impossible to take the decision well. I don't think he expects us to be thinking that everything's good, to be honest"

The defender played 70 games for Germany, scoring five goals and providing four assists. He won the World Cup in 2014, probably the greatest achievement of his career.
