Samuel Eto'o has recalled how he gave a pep talk to Mohammed Salah, after the Egyptian was struggling for confidence during their time at Chelsea.

The Cameroon international told Salah that he would become "a great player" after the Eqyptian had endured a torrid performance one afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Having left the Premier League in 2016, Salah returned to emphatic effect, showing his talents for Liverpool in a sensational breakthrough season last year.

Now former teammate, Samuel Eto'o has asserted his belief that Salah would always blossom into the player he has become today.

In an interview with 'Alkasschannel' Eto'o said: "'I hope that Salah remembers the day we were together in Stamford Bridge dressing room after he'd had a poor performance. I asked him to be patient and told him 'you are a good player and you will become a great player'."

While Eto'o admits that Salah has become World Class, the Cameroonian believes that this is only just the start for the Liverpool forward.

Salah scored 44 goals in his debut season at Anfield, albeit to no avail in regards to silverware. Nevertheless, the Egyptian has found that stellar form hard to rediscover at the start of the current campaign.

Eto'o added: "Salah has turned into that big player and will write his own story through persistence and strong desire. The whole thing depends on Salah himself, he has unbelievable skills and is currently performing at a top level that's allowing him to compete for Ballon d'Or."
