Atlético Madrid were aware of interest in Joao Félix from some of Europe's top clubs. In order to convince him to choose a move to 'Los Colchoneros', according to 'AS', the club brought forward his journey to Madrid.
According to the Spanish press, Manchester City and Juventus were the two sides making a late push to sign the Portuguese youngster, with Real Madrid and PSG having already dropped out of the race.
Atlético knew they had to work quickly to secure a move for Joao Félix, so they didn't hesitate in planning his trip to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Along with his parents and his brother, Joao Félix flew to Spain. During his stay in Madrid, according to 'AS', the club showed him around the Wanda and he met with the board.
After being told about the project at Atlético Madrid and the role he would play within it, Joao Félix ended up opting for a move to the Spanish capital, with Diego Simeone's side having convinced the Benfica star that the club is the right place for him to continue his development.
Now, Benfica just need to give the green light to Joao Félix's exit. If everything goes as expected, the Spanish side will pay his 120 million release clause and the forward will become Antoine Griezmann's replacement in Atlético's attack.
