Fulham's defence was split wide open after a scramble for the ball at the end of a Jose Holebas throw.
With neither side able to get a foot to the ball, it roled away into the area for Will Hughes to lay off Andre Gray.
The 27-year-old could do no wrong, pouncing on the chance and finishing low into the far corner of Marcus Bettinelli's goal.
