Honours even at Villa Park, despite both sides scoring five

In a topsy turvy affair, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forrest produced an early Christmas cracker, as the sides would eventually draw 5-5 in the Championship match.

Neither team deserved to lose, but likewise neither deserved to take the spoils. Perhaps as such, a draw was a fair result.

Yet in a scarcely believable series of events at Villa park, both teams scored 5 goals apiece, and there was even a red card thrown in for good measure.

As scintillating as the striking powers of both teams were, their defences left the field of play in ruins.

It does bode well for the Championship promotion race though, as the entertainment looks set to go right to the wire once more, in the second flight of English football.

Upon the full time whistle, both sets of supporters gave their sides a well deserved standing ovation; as they had just witnessed a fixture that had produced a record equalling scoreline in the entire history of the division.

Dean Smith praised the manner in which his Villa players "...were relentless going forwards", while Aitor Karanka hailed his sides perseverance to take a result, saying Forest "...showed big personality, big commitment."

The result leaves Villa in 8th place in the table,  three points off the top six. While Forest maintain their play off place in 6th on 31 points.
