Steve Bruce's Aston Villa saw two points lost as they conceded a controversial last minute penalty to Reading, converted by Sam Baldock.

Villa had controlled much of the the first half, and took the lead just after the break when Ahmed Elmohamedy nodded in from Anwar El Ghazi's cross in the the 51st minute.

John McGinn and Jack Grealish both had clear chances to score but failed to beat Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone, which the 'Villains' very nearly lived to regret when Orjan Nyland was called into action to make a triple save with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Then the 93rd minute came along. James Chester challenged Josh Sims for the ball in the area, which seemed a relatively clean challenge to most other than referee Darren England, who saw a scissor challenge and pointed to the spot.

Bruce seemed calm as the referee made his decision, and even more so as striker Sam Baldock converted for the 'Royals'.

The goal could have well saved Paul Clement's job at Reading, who remarked: "We’ve been on wrong end of really fine margins and it looked like it would be another but the players pushed and pushed.

"This will be really good for our confidence."
