The numbers do not favour Zinedine Zidane's side ahead of their knockout stage tie with PSG, one of the biggest clashes to come out of the Champions League draw in Lyon on Monday.

Real Madrid have never beaten PSG in the knockout stages of a European tournament. We have to go back 25 years to remember the first time the Parisians knocked Madrid out of a continental competition.

In 1992/93, the pair went head to head in the UEFA Cup, but the French club brushed 'Los Blancos' aside, just like they did the following year in the 1993/94 Cup Winners' Cup.

Both times Real were knocked out in the quarter-finals. In the UEFA Cup, PSG came back from an adverse 3-1 result in the first leg, putting four goals past Madrid in the return fixture in the French capital.

PSG made the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup the following year after clinching a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu before holding the Spaniards to a 1-1 draw in Paris.

These numbers only attend to clashes in the knockout stages, but over 20 years later PSG and Real Madrid were placed in the same Champions League group.

In 2015/16, a 1-0 result to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu followed by a 0-0 draw at the Parc des Princes saw them get the edge over their opponents.

This year, the two clubs will face each other once again, in the Champions League last 16. Two favourites to lift the trophy in May, Real will attempt to rewrite history by sending the side led by Neymar back home.
