Let's go with the first ball!

Now it's time for the draw to begin. Union Berlin, the first team to be drawn.

The draw is explained in detail

UEFA now explains how the draw itself will work. There will be two pots: in one, those who finished top of the group. In the other, those who have won the round of 32. From there, the crossings will be drawn (as long as they are not from the same country). After the draw, UEFA will determine the schedule, which will be announced this Friday before 18:00.

Already in Nyon: the draw is underway!

At 12.00 o'clock, the draw began. The presenter of the gala explains how it will be and the conditions (teams from the same Federation cannot play against each other). He gave a brief summary of what had happened in the round of 32 and presented the 16 teams that are still alive in the competition.

This is how the teams qualified

We take a look back at what happened on Thursday in the Europa League. The teams that qualified as group winners did not play, but the runners-up faced the teams that dropped out of the Champions League.

The big surprise came from Manchester United, who knocked Barcelona out after winning the second leg 2-1 (the first leg was 2-2). Sevilla lost 2-0 to PSV, but a 3-0 win in the first leg saw them through to the last 16. Rennes and Shakhtar repeated the 2-1 scoreline from the first and second legs. The Ukrainian side won on penalties.

Sporting CP overcame Midtjylland (0-4) after a 1-1 draw in the first match. Monaco-Bayer Leverkusen was also decided from the penalty spot, with both round of 32 clashes ending 2-3. The German side finally made it through.

Juve, who visited Nantes after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, made no mistake in the second leg. A 3-0 win saw the 'bianconeri' through to the next round. Ajax failed to make it through: they drew 0-0 with Union Berlin in the first leg and the Germans won 1-3 in the second leg.

Roma, finally, booked their place in the last 16 despite going down 1-0 to Salzburg in the first leg. They bounced back in the second leg and came from behind to win 2-0 and advance to the last 16.

Round of 16 dates

The first leg matches are scheduled for Thursday 9th March. The return fixtures will take place a week later, on the 16th. Four matches will take place at 18.45 and the remaining four at 21.00.

This is how the draw will work

The eight teams that qualified from the group stage (Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Feyenoord, Freiburg, Ferencvaros, Fenerbahçe and Arsenal) plus those that won their round of 32 fixture (Sevilla, Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Roma, Union Berlin, Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk) will enter the draw. The group winners will be the top seeds and will play at home in the second leg. There is one condition: teams belonging to the same federation cannot be paired together. In other words, there can be no Sevilla-Betis or Juve-Roma.
