Dean Henderson has been left with no choice but to leave Manchester United for a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, where he hopes to get the playing time he missed at Old Trafford. The England goalkeeper, David de Gea's substitute, was highly critical of United's management, who promised him he would be the first-choice goalkeeper.

With no place in Manchester United's starting eleven, the Old Trafford side sent Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest just a few weeks ago, where he will play on loan for the 2022-23 season.

United's goalkeeping is occupied by Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, who has benched the England international, who has only had opportunities in three official matches.

That is why the 25-year-old goalkeeper has decided to try his luck away from the Manchester club, of which he does not have fond memories. In comments to 'Talk Sport', the British goalkeeper revealed a conversation with the United board: "The conversation they had with me at the start of the season was that I had just gone to the European Championship and I was going to come back, after my loan spell at Sheffield United, to be the first-choice goalkeeper.

"I got COVID-19 and then it seems that all the promises are gone. It was frustrating, I turned down several loan offers during the summer for that reason, they didn't want to let me go. I ended up missing 12 months without competing, it was so hard for a goalkeeper of my age, I was furious."

"I didn't want to talk to the new coach because I knew he would probably say he wanted me. I didn't even consider training. I was very clear and told the coaches I needed to play, I wasn't going to stay and be a substitute," Henderson said.
