Premier League clubs have been put on alert after former Liverpool and Chelsea star Fernando Torres revealed his desire to leave La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and return to England.

Fernando Torres is growing frustrated in the Spanish capital. The 33-year-old watched Atletico re-sign Diego Costa to add to their firepower up front and further limit his chances of first-team football.

Torres enjoyed a brilliant spell at Anfield where he banged in 81 goals in 142 appearances between 2007 and 2011, before a blockbuster move to Chelsea saw his form drop dramatically.

The striker eventually returned to hometown club Atletico, where he has started just twice in all competitions this season. With 18 months left on his contract, Torres has informed Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez and Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino of his wish to leave Atletico on loan.

His initial plan was to end his footballing days at his childhood club, but a need for regular first-team action may see him reunite with former coach Benitez in January, while Pellegrino could also push to sign the Spaniard.
