The Norwegian forward Erling Haaland, one of the great promises of European football, was chosen as the player of the year in Austria on Wednesday. He plays for Red Bull Salzburg.

With 28 goals (8 in the UEFA Champions League) in 22 matches so far this season, he has one of the highest goalscoring ratios in the European leagues this season.

Haaland beat Marcel Sabitzer (RB Leipzig) and David Alaba (Bayern Munich) to the award, who are considered as the 2 best Austrian players at the moment.

"For me, this award is something very big", Haaland told APA after finding out the result, voted for by the managers from the Austrian Bundesliga.

The Norwegian is under contract at Salzburg until 2023, but several big Europan clubs are interested in signing the forward, with Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund two of the many teams.

Haaland assures that he will remain at Red Bull for now and that he feels "perfect", although the Austrian press have been speculating for weeks about a possible exit in the summer at the very latest to one of the European big leagues.

By selling the forward, Salzburg could get up to 80 million euros, according to the local press.
