Antoine Griezmann said that he feared Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone was on his way to Paris St-Germain during the summer, but says the Argentine reassured him that he would stay at the club.

The manager's job at the Ligue 1 champions became vacant when Laurent Blanc stepped down from the role, and many were linking the Atletico Madrid manager with the job.

However, PSG opted for ex-Sevilla manager Unai Emery which came as somewhat of a relief for Griezmann.

Despite this, the Frenchman was genuinely worried that Simeone would leave, and he even thought that it was a "done deal".

"I was at the European Championship and in France they were saying that it was almost a done deal," Griezmann told 'Onda Cero'.

Griezmann also claimed that Atletico Madrid "need" Simeone.

"I was afraid that he would not be here. I still need to work with him, learn from him. Atleti needs him," he added

"He told me that he was going to stay, that he was talking to the club and that everything would be fine - that conversation reassured me".
