Antoine Griezmann once again offered a very light version against Athletic and Barcelona fans are crying out for him to step up his game, as he is the one who should be pulling the cart after Messi's departure. Koeman asked him for more, but so far there has been no response.
After offering a great performance against Real Sociedad, the first game without Messi on the pitch, Barca were unable to cope with Athletic at the new San Mames and went home with a point (1-1).
Koeman's team left a lot to be desired as did one player in particular, Griezmann. The Frenchman, who has been asked to be more involved after Leo's departure, was not up to the task.
The attacker offered a light version and that doesn't leave him in a very good position. Koeman, after the match, openly stated that he entrusted the Frenchman to play a more important role from now on.
Against Athletic, the Frenchman did not make his presence felt, unlike other teammates. As 'Marca' reports, one of those players who did shine was De Jong, who played an incredible game from start to finish.
Just look at two examples: he blocked a shot from Williams inside the box and hit the bar after a great shot. Barcelona are crying out for a leader. Without Messi, Griezmann must step up but, for the moment, he is not there.
