Sheffield United confirmed in an official statement that John Fleck, who collapsed in a Championship clash against Reading, is now at home. The doctors discharged him from hospital and he will continue to be monitored by the club's medical team.

Good news for Sheffield United, for English football and for sport in general. John Fleck collapsed during a Championship game away to Reading and he has to be taken to hospital. A day later, his club confirmed that he was discharged from hospital and that he is now at home.

"Sheffield United is grateful to report that John Fleck has been discharged from hospital and will return to Sheffield today (Wednesday). He was conscious when he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and was communicative with club and medical personnel as well as his family," the statement read.

"After comprehensive medical examinations and staying in hospital overnight for observation, he has been allowed home, where United medical staff will continue to monitor him closely. United and John Fleck would like to thank all who assisted at a stressful time last night and also everyone for their supportive messages," it concluded.

Christian Eriksen collapsing while playing for Denmark during the Euros set alarm bells ringing over the state of players' health, especially given the packed fixture schedules. Barcelona's Sergio Aguero is another example. He could have to retire from football due to a heart anomaly.
