Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has signed a new five-year contract with the Championship club.

The Villa board rejected a £25m bid from Tottenham for the 23-year-old over the summer, after new club owner Nassef Sawiris insisted he was not for sale.

Grealish was said to be disappointed by the decision, and manager Steve Bruce confirmed that the move would have gone through if the bid had been made earlier in the transfer window.

However, Bruce praised the player's attitude after the deadline had passed.

"We keep hearing that footballers don't want to play," Bruce said back in August. "Jack's knocking on my office at ten past nine demanding that he plays.

"Typical Jack. All the stories you hear about him, one thing I can tell you is that he wants to play."

Bruce had admitted Grealish was likely to be sold to ease financial worries at Villa before the club's new owners arrived in July with fresh investment.
