Goztepe have squashed the reports relating to Abramovich's supposed offer to buy the Turkish club. Talat Papatya, vice president, spoke about the rumours and firmly denied any form of relationship with the current Chelsea owner.

The vice president of Goztepe, Talat Papatya, has denied the rumours that Roman Abramovich, current Chelsea owner, has acquired the club from the Turkish League.

According to Turkish reports, Abramovich, who is in the process of selling Chelsea, had come to an agreement with the board of the Ottoman club and was awaiting confirmation over the next few days.

"Abramovich did not approach or speak to anyone about purchasing the club. There was no such thing", Talat Papatya explained in comments to 'DHA'.

"We read in the news that Abramovich had made a bid for the club. It's nothing. We will make the necessary announcement when those types of things reach a certain level of maturity", he added.

Although these most recent rumours have been squashed, Abramovich may well be looking to buy a new club in the coming weeks after having to sell Chelsea on the basis of the sanctions imposed on him by the British government.

Raine Group, who are facilitating the sale of Chelsea, have produced a shortlist of possible buyers, and they will have to inform the British Government of their preferred candidate before 18th April.
