AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso was a formidable midfielder in his day, and wishes that he had played alongside Real Madrid star Luka Modric ahead of Lionel Messi or Crisitnao Ronaldo.
While he had the opportunity to play alongside some of the greatest midfielders of his generation, such as Kaka and Andrea Pirlo, Gattuso still wishes he could have played alongside a midfield maestro currently at the peak of his powers.
When asked in an interview with UEFA who is the player at the minute with whom he most wishes he could play, Gattuso said: "Everyone says Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, but I would have love to have played with Luka Modric.
"I think he's an incredible player, really strong mentally and a pure footballer"
Modric was not the only one to come in for praise, with duo of French midfielders also getting a mention for their talents.
"From the current era, I'd like to come up against Paul Pogba. Another player I like is Blaise Matuidi. It seems like he never stops running, he's all over you. He wins back possession and makes tackles incredibly well."
