Gennaro Gattuso seems to be clear that he wants a solid and efficient project for Valencia CF. That is why the Italian coach is insisting on signing Dries Mertens, a player who will be free after not renewing his contract with Napoli. The problem is his financial demands.

Dries Mertens will end his stay at Napoli after nine seasons. The 35-year-old Belgian has failed to reach an agreement to renew his contract, which is why he is already thinking of new destinations.

Several teams have been knocking on his door. One of the options he is considering is a move to La Liga, something that would become even more important with the arrival of Gennaro Gattuso at Valencia.

The coach knows him from his time at Napoli, and would have expressly asked the board to make a financial effort for him.

As reported by 'Il Correire dello Sport', Mertens has reportedly asked for a renewal bonus of 1.6 million euros.
