Cody Gakpo has revealed that agreeing to his new contract with Liverpool took almost a year, with the process complicated by reported interest from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.

Speaking to ESPN, the Dutch winger described negotiations as "a long process", highlighting the challenges players face during hectic transfer periods.

Despite Bayern's approach, Cody Gakpo confirmed that the German side ultimately signed Luis Diaz instead. He admitted the transfer window can be "hectic and stressful" for players and those around them, though he insisted that such situations no longer unsettle him.

The 26-year-old reflected on the difficulty of handling multiple approaches while remaining committed to his current club. "Other clubs come to you, but you may want to keep your own club. Everyone deals with it in their own way, but it is certainly difficult," he explained.

Gakpo also emphasised his contentment at Anfield, praising his teammates and the environment at Liverpool. "I'm very happy at the club, a good group and good teammates. I enjoy every moment of it and I'm very grateful that I can extend," he said, underlining his commitment to the Reds.
