After 30 minutes in the match between Chelsea and Brighton, and while being 2-0 down, Kepa signalled to the bench for Edouard Mendy to start warming up, and despite lasting until half-time, he had to be subbed off for the second half.

Kepa Arrizabalaga had one of his worst afternoons of the last few months against Brighton. Graham Potter's arrival in the Chelsea dugout has given him back the number one spot after a lot time in Mendy's shadow, but this Saturday he had a nightmare.

The London side were already losing 2-0 after only 15 minutes of the first half. The Spanish goalkeeper, who had been in the headlines for his multiple clean sheets in the last few games, started the afternoon badly.

But the nightmare had only just begun. Just before they had played 30 minutes, Kepa had to come out of his area to beat a Brighton player to a dangerous ball and send it for a throw-in. It was then that he noticed that something was not right.

The ex-Athletic Bilbao man immediately looked towards the bench, and with obvious signals, asked for Mendy to start warming up. The goalkeeper put his bib on and started doing exercises on the wing, despite it not being until the second half and 3-0 down, that he came on for The Blues.

This news has ruined a week in which Kepa, who lasted until half time and even had to play being hurt, knew he had been short-listed by Luis Enrique for the World Cup.
