Nick Pope's journey to the England squad is less than conventional. In a few short years he went from being the milkman, to competing for the England number one shirt.

Not even Pope would have imagined being in the situation he has found himself in. The Brit has been selected for the England team for the first time at 25-years-old.

He began working as a milkman as a young teenager, waking up at four in the morning to earn a little extra money. Having climbed through all of the English football leagues, he has reached the top level of England squad selection.

Football has always been a passion for Pope. At 16-years-old he was dropped by Ipswich Town, the team that he had trained at as a child, and decided to try his luck at Bury Town.

Little by little, the keeper progressed and was offered an opportunity at Charlton Athletic in 2011. He transferred to Burnley in 2016, making his debut in the Premier League for the 'Clarets' on 10th September 2017.

So far this season in the Premier League, Pope, has the second highest percentage of saves and has played 27 games. Gareth Southgate called him up for the England squad due to his great form this season.

The English coach called three other goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland. However, the Burnley goalkeeper is statistically better than the rest and could have his chance against the Netherlands or Italy ahead of the World Cup.
