Fresh images could prevent Mascherano's sanction
New images from Spanish television station TVE could demonstrate that the referee committed an error in sending off Barcelona defender Mascherano in last night's 3-1 win over Eibar.
While the Catalan club won the game after a hat-trick from Luis Suarez, the match was marred in controversy after Mascherano appeared to shout at the linesman ‘la concha de tu madre’ which literally translates to "your mother’s c***”.
It is now being argued that Mascherano didn’t even say that and he actually said “la concha de tu hermana”, which means “your sister’s c***’. As the match report has the former, Barcelona are trying to argue that this errors invalidates the sanctioning of the player.
Barcelona’s legal team have already requested images from the match to help appeal the expulsion of Mascherano.
The Competition Committee will study the case and match report in the coming days, possibly as soon as Tuesday, which could see the defender suspended for up to four matches. If this were the case, Mascherano would miss ‘El Clásico’ which will be played on November 21st.
