Ajax's young star Frenkie de Jong would be very keen to join Barcelona if he is to leave his current team.
Ajax's young star Frenkie de Jong would be very keen to join Barcelona if he is to leave his current team.
The talented midfielder made his name with the Amsterdam-based team last season, making 26 appearances for the club in all competitions.
As a result of his impressive performances in the centre of the park, he has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in European football, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but according to 'Mundo Deportivo' he has his heart set on joining Barcelona.
It is believed that the player's agent has travelled to the Catalan city a number of times recently to meet with the club's representatives, and Barcelona's top officials including Eric Abidal, the technical secretary, has visited the Dutch capital to take part in talks.
Despite the wishes of the player, Ajax are thought to not be willing to let one of their brightest young players leave the side, in a summer where Jason Kluivert has already left for Roma. Even so, 'Mundo Deportivo' reports that a £40 million offer could change their position.
Barcelona are also continuing to persue the signing of Adrien Rabiot from French champions PSG, to strenghten their midfield after the loss of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho.
