The heavyweight clash between France and Argentina will help kick off the World Cup knockout stages and whilst both sides will be dreaming of continuing their march in the competition, the French press has issued a warning to Lionel Messi.

After scraping through the group stages, Lionel Messi's objective is clear: to refind something like his best form and lead his country to World Cup glory.

Standing in their way are Antoine Griezmann and France. All eyes will be on the two sides on Saturday as they face off in the first knockout game of this summer's World Cup.

Back in 'L'Hexagóne', France are aware of the importance of the clash, with the media already upping the ante by firing a warning to Messi.

Renowned sports publication 'L'Équipe' is the source in question, leading with a cover reading "thou shalt not pass" aimed at Messi.

In the image, Messi is surrounded by five French players, including Benjamin Pavard, N'Golo Kante, Raphael Varan, Samuel Umtiti and Paul Pogba.

Below the image a simple message reads: "Les Bleus' mission is clear. If they want to qualify for the quarter-finals, they must neutralize Lionel Messi, the cornerstone of Argentina."
