The French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, compared Barcelona's current situation, and a hypothetical independence of Cataluña, simular to that of Monaco, another team that isn't French but plays in Ligue 1.
Valls, who believe it or not, is actually a Barcelona fan, has opened the doors the the Catalan giants by saying that if they do gain independance and subsequently are unable to play in La Liga, they would be accepted into the French League.
“After all, Monaco play in Ligue 1 and aren’t in France…” the Frenchman said in a ‘confidencial’ interview with French paper ‘Challenges’.
Recently the Prime Minister also spoke about his time in the Catalan provence and how he is a strong supporter of the club. In an interview with ‘Journal du Dimanche’ he said the following:
“When I was a teenager, in August 1975, a few weeks before the death of Franco, I remember the incredible atmosphere within the Camp Nou. Barcelona’s history isn’t just linked to football.
"I’m a passionate Barca fan, it’s always been in my family and the French people know about it, and they speak about me on the street because of it."
