At the World Cup in Russia next summer we will see seven winners, one finalist and two debutants. These are the best finishes of every national team qualified for next summer's showpiece event:

Debutants

Iceland and Panama will play at the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Group stage

Russia, Serbia, Tunisia and Iran have never progressed past the group phase.

Round of 16

Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Quarter finals

Colombia, Peru, Switzerland, Denmark, Senegal, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Semifinalists

Portugal, Poland, Belgium, Croatia and South Korea, with a special mention to the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, who are today represented by Russia and Serbia.

Finalists

Sweden are the only qualified national side to have played in a World Cup final and lost it.

Champions

France, England and Spain (once), Uruguay and Argentina (twice), Germany (4 times, including the 3 won as the Federal Republic of Germany) and Brazil (5 times).
