As the Women's Euro 2017 began on Sunday, the European championship could change people's perception of women's sport.

According to Tracey Crouch MP, the tournament in which England and Scotland will participate, could change people's view of women's football.

"That in turn can drive better commercial opportunities, better sponsorship, which in turn creates more broadcasting opportunities", she said.

On Wednesday, both teams will face each other in the Netherlands, as they battle out their group opening game.

The English side have never won the European Championship, although they were the highest-rated European team at 2015 World Cup in Canada, where they finished in third place.

"I was lucky enough to be there in Canada and to go on and achieve bronze was amazing and I think that has acted as inspiration", Tracey Crouch explained.

Scotland have qualified for their first major finals, and coach Anna Signeul told BBC Scotland: "For the moment, we have 11,000 players, but that hopefully grows and when it grows to maybe 20,000 we should have double the amount of talent to pick from".
