England takes back their intellectual property
Two finalists of this year's Champions League are English, Tottenham and Liverpool, which means that something is changing in the domain of football and that an end of cycle could be near.
If the industrial revolution started in the British Isles, it's for a reason. It has always stood out as a great land of inventors. Gadgets like the steam locomotive or ideas like divorce were born there for a reason.
Looking at a more recent past, about 150 years ago or so, we find one of the greatest and best inventions that Britain have bequeathed to mankind: football.
Football, or soccer, began as a hobby, but it has become a universal language that everyone understands but very few master.
As usual, creators have a great appreciation for their work. That's why, every time they feel threatened with losing it, they take out their claws to recover it. And, after this Champions, the English have taken back the patent of this sport they invented.
There were times when new ideas lurked in the shadows, even some came to impose. Brazil has always been one of the biggest 'threats' to its creation, with a casual and eye-catching style.
Later, Holland laid the foundations of a certain mechanical harmony that was perfected over the years until ending, in a way, in the 'tiki taka' that led Spain to the summit between 2008 and 2012.
But the English are tired and have sent two of their most practical teams to recover what belongs to them and rescue their creation.
But it wasn't just the work of Liverpool and Tottenham. For more than 30 years, four English teams had not been seen in the semi-finals of the two main continental competitions. In 1984 'Reds' and 'Spurs' shared the stage with Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
This time Chelsea and Arsenal have gotten through instead of United and Forest. A blow on the table to regain sovereignty over the wonderful invention that is football.
