Tammy Abraham scored at the death to give England's Under-21 team a winning start over China in the Toulon Tournament.

It was a rather sluggish performance from the young 'Lions' who are hoping to win the competition for the third consecutive year.

They went a goal down in the 20th minute as China broke the deadlock through midfielder Dinghao Yan.

A perfectly whipped cross was headed past opposing goalkeeper Freddie Woodburn, who could do little to stop the effort.

However, Aidy Boothroyd's team would have the ball in the back of the net twice before the break, but both would be ruled out for offside.

Their third attempt finally stood after Abraham's header was turned in by Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry from close-range.

The game seemed to be heading for a disappointing draw until China were reduced to ten men. Captain Sun Longxiang was given his marching orders for a late challenge on Hamza Choudhury.

Just two minutes after, England found their breakthrough, Abraham slotting home a pull-back from Adam Armstrong.
