Former Sevilla player Diego Carlos could miss the rest of the season with Aston Villa. The Brazilian centre-back will be out for six to nine months after rupturing his Achilles tendon in his second Premier League game.

In a statement, Aston Villa confirmed the extent of Diego Carlos' injury. The centre-back will be out for between six and nine months. He ruptured his Achilles tendon on matchday 2 of the Premier League.

The former Sevilla player was injured during the match between Aston Villa and Everton at Villa Park. Steven Gerard's side, who had to win after the defeat against Bournemouth in the first game, won at home.

It was undoubtedly a bittersweet victory after the English coach had to change the Brazilian on the 90th minute.

Diego Carlos arrived this summer from Sevilla for 35 million euros. An important investment by Aston Villa, who will have to go back to the transfer market to find a replacement for the centre-back while he recovers.
