Barcelona paid a €105 million fee to secure the service of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, but the amount could increase if the clauses stipulated on the Frenchman's contract are triggered.

Up to 140 million euros. That could be the total amount Barcelona may have to pay out for the 20-year-old France international. German daily 'Bild' revealed the clauses that would see Dembele's transfer fee reach new heights.

Firstly, once the winger makes 50 appearances for Barcelona, the club will have to pay Borussia Dortmund 10 million euros, something that seems rather likely to happen.

The second clause also appears attainable. For the Bundesliga outfit to receive a further 10 million euros, Barcelona must qualify just once for the Champions League in the next five years. The club managed by Valverde was last left out of Europe's top tier competition in 2003.

Added to those fees, the Catalans will have to make a payment to Dembele's previous club, Rennes. An extra 20 million euros to take the initial 105 million up to an eye-watering 140 million.
