Frenkie de Jong is all set for a move to Barcelona, but he faces the end of the season with mixed emotions as he leaves his boyhood club that helped him grow into the promising young player he is now.

Excited for his new journey in Spain but with a heavy heart from the one that is currently ending in Amsterdam - that is how Frenkie de Jong assessed his career at this moment in time after an impressive breakthrough season at Ajax.

In an interview with Dutch media, de Jong spoke honestly about what awaits him in Catalonia: "I don't expect to be a starter at Barcelona".

"I'm going to miss everything about Ajax. I have enjoyed every moment here. This club is marvellous and has a great vision of football and young players", added the young midfielder, whose agreement with Barcelona could have a wider impact on the transfer market.

"I'm very sad to leave, but also very happy to join Barcelona", said the Dutch international, who also stated that he would rather win a Champions league than a World Cup trophy with the Netherlands.

Barça, for their part, are awaiting the midfielder's arrival with open arms, as Sergio Busquets himself suggested just days ago, suggesting: "De Jong has all the qualities to be successful at Barça".
